About Me

Team Aksara from ITB goes to Korea with their ABC

Yesterday afternoon, July 2 at Tea Addict Lounge, Jakarta, Microsoft Indonesia announced the winner of Imagine Cup Software Design Indonesia. They will go to Korea to represent Indonesia at the world wide competition next month. They are Team Aksara from ITB. Congrats!

They build a software called ABC. This is a software that can be used to learn how to read, write and count (This year's Imagine Cup theme is Education). The interesting part is that it is not just a single user app we can find in bookstores or whatever, this solution can be used by multiusers, in Class scenarios. Up to 15 users (students in class) can interact with the app using tablet/mouse and the system can respond to each individual user.

Other than close alignment with this year's theme, the team also exploit a bunch of new APIs, one other factor that lead them to be a winner. These APIs are: Windows Multipoint SDK, Speech SDK and Handwriting Recognition SDK.

Team Aksara from ITB consist of: Desi Hadiati, Mohamad Octamanullah, Riza Ramadan and Budiono. Good luck in Korea, guys! At least be in the big 6! Smile

I also like to mention the 2nd Place: Team Musicaholics from ITB with their Musicologous solution. A solution that helps people to learn how to play musical instrument at their own pace. At the core, they anlayze the sound wave produced by the instrument played by the user, and compare it with the sound wave produced if an expert plays that instrument. They use the FFT algo. There are also other features.

The 3rd place:Team Garuda from STT Telkom with their Cakrawala Solution. It's a Windows Media Center-look like app, build with WPF. They propose that we can read books thru Media Center. It actually can be used in real Windows Media Center. Imagine, reading books from your TV. Smile

In this year's Imagine Cup Software Design Indonesia, here are the list of the judges:

  • Dondy Bappedyanto, Application Architect, Freeport Indonesia, MVP Solutions Architect
  • Jonah Stephen, Development and Platform Evangelism Director, Microsoft Indonesia
  • Norman Sasono, Principal Engineer, Intimedia, MVP C#
  • Richard Mengko, Advisor for Indonesia State Ministry of Research and Technology
  • Tahir Tahang, CEO, Prismatek, MVP ASP.NET

We were also assisted by Zeddy Iskandar, Academic Developer Evangelist, Microsoft Indonesia.

To me, it's been my 4th years being in the judges team. I was a judge member for Imagine Cup 2004, 2005 and 2006 too. Every year, I see significant improvement from quantity and the quality of Imagine Cup Software Design Indonesia.

Now, I'm excited for next year's Imagine Cup already. Imaine Cup 2008. Looking forward to see what will be the theme. And... yeah, next year's final will be in France!

Tell your friends, fellow students, brothers & sisters, tell everybody... join 2008 Imagine Cup Software Design! (ITS, Binus, where are you guys???). I also would love to see if there are finalists coming from outside Java.

O, one more thing, if you're a finalist of this year's Imagine Cup Software Design and about to graduate, and looking for software development job, if you wanna continue making software with cutting edge Microsoft technologies, send me your resume! I have past year's finalists in my team, Imagine Cup is one media I use to seek for candidates. Smile

@Lutfi: where is agung ? :))

I'm here. I'm one of the reviewers. :)

For Norman:

Even the technology what they are trying to solve is great, but most of the team lack about business model knowledge. Most of them don't know about business model approach.

If Microsoft need a business model judge, then come to me. :D ;)

We also consider business approach, we choose these top threes, one factor is that their business model is more make sense than the others. See Aksara's business model. For Musicaholics, they're still "figuring out", while for Cakrawala, I guess they need to mature their product first. Most of the great values that may come out of it are still in "ideas". No bits yet. :)

Yes i know and i understand. That's why i give highest value for Aksara's business model. They figured out clearly and easy to understand.

Even "ideas" can be valuable if we can figure out clearly. :)

But as a whole, all team are great!

I can share this in my .NET Academy project.

Iya Gung.. mana nih anak2 dari campus .NET Academy elu? Gak pernah ada yg nongol? Padahal kan ellu jalaninnya udah tahunan...

Selalu aja dari list ini: ITB, STT Telkom, UI, UGM, ITS, Binus. Gak ada kampus lain apa ya? :)

Basir, pasukan BaranangSiang pada kemana?

.NET Academy implementasinya baru dalam hitungan bulan, belum tahunan Man.

Sebab sifatnya bukan kursus, tapi benar-benar kurikulum kampus. Jadi perencanaannya harus matang benar-benar.

Next, listnya pasti akan nambah. Sure about that. :)

Okay. Imagine Cup 2008, harus ada dari kampus2 tsb. Kalau gak ada, artinya .NET Academy fail? Gimana? Dare to take the challenge? He..he..he..

Udah ngoprek API2 yg aneh2 lagi... :)

Anyway... gua sih pengen-nya biar ramai aja anak2 mahasiswa punya event.

Agree.

I accept your challenge. :)

Sisanya modal sendiri. Gimana mau maju kalo masih seperti ini.

@bsrd: 2008 ye :D

Yoi bos Basir. We'll see. :)

@cahnom:
