Mobile 2.0

Recently I joined to develop some fascinating managed application for windows mobile devices, different from the usual style that I have did for some years (in a fact I develop for Pocket PC platform), nowadays I'm build for Smartphone platform. Smartphone platform is a subset for Pocket PC platform. Although they shared same framework like Net Compact Framework 3.5, they are some constraint that Smartphone capabilities is limited, think about small screen, complicated menu navigation, and connectivity problem you will see that you need a pattern for handling such this situation. Take a look about Mobile Data Architecture, this plain solution is still the best in mobile client development View article.... The combination of solution and the device itself, I barely said that this is Mobile 2.0 both for developer, architects, and the user.

So what's Mobile 2.0? It's just what I said to the mobile technology lately. I'm surely seen there is a pattern where the mobile technology will go and get their taste. The booming of iPhone, gPhone, Nokia devices, and the small amount market share of windows mobile platform will guide us to said that what we see in the next occasion is a platform that.

  1. Multimodal Input, take a look a serious phone; they have more than one input style (HTC Tytn family, HTC Touch Dual, Moto ROKR E8, W910). And it's not always about keyboard and touch screen. Some of them are new mechanism, shake control in W910, ultimate touch in iPhone, and accelerometer in Nokia all of them are great. Why they develop such us UI the answer is simple "Because UX is matter"
  2. Simplify navigation, have you use windows mobile 2003 SE in the past?, ask yourself how you open your sms you have to navigate start -> programs -> messages -> sms -> dropdown the folder pickers (select inbox) (huff..) and see how iPhone or HTC dual do that ( a single click!). Yes... nowadays or next device will provide Simplify UI and navigation just like what Window Mobile Devices did in Soft Key recently J, or shortcut combination like what HTC touch did (move your thumb to the right/left to slide show the picture). Why? "Because UX is matter"
  3. Sexy User Interface, like Wulan Jameela sings "mahluk tuhan yang paling seksi" the mobile phone user will also say sexy for their application as well as their device. Yahoo recently build Yahoo Go 3.0, and what can I say, the application is so sexy. Technology such as WIDGET and WIDSETS will become a sample for build a better user interface, why? "Because UX is matter"
  4. Platform Agnostics Development, are you regret the successful of J2ME as a technology that provide this solution. Windows Mobile 5/6 or 7 didn't provide this solution and who did? The OEM. HTC, HP or O2 don't want loose this technology they bundled their WM device with J2ME runtime. And J2ME is not the only platform that can run well you see a FLASH now integrated in mobile through FLASH Lite 2.0 applications, take a look the latest Nokia device and HTC devices they bundled it. They know sometime FLASH Lite (in the next version) will help you see a Flash Video, Flash application, Flash game, Flash Remoting for Business and FLEX..With a good user interface and great platform flexibility (whoa…. Because UX is matter)
  5. Selling to Services, take a look what Nokia did? They sell much content now, they hold their hand with GSM provider and they build a good relationship with a customer. Because pulling money out of customers' pocket once (i.e. when they purchase mobile phones) is not enough - why not getting more money from them. Ho2x i-Mofis, Air Secretary, Air Album, and what's next who followed SaaS Software delivery method. And this is because users want to see some dynamic in their device and because UX is matter.

I's not late for Windows Mobile, the Windows Mobile 7.0 will come and are you ready to upgrade your device for better UX http://microsoft.blognewschannel.com/archives/2008/01/06/exclusive-windows-mobile-7-to-focus-on-touch-and-motion-gestures/

"Build your application in User Experience in mind, although your code will become definitely hard, you will see how much your customer will wait and love your application" and just like peterpan song –" Yang Terdalam"

Pernahkah engkau coba mengerti
Lihatlah ku disini
Mungkinkah jika aku bermimpi
Salahkah tuk menanti
