Geneva Framework “Rebirth” | Windows Identity Foundation
When i said about Geneva some of the people think that is one a great place in the world. Well that is a “code-named” product should be phase out and change the name into official one and Geneva Framework got new name called Windows Identity Foundation (W-I-F). WIF is one of the existing Geneva solution, so how about the Geneva Server and Cardspace Geneva
Geneva Server –> Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS). Geneva server will be integrated with existing feature of Windows Server 2008. Yap it’s already there in Windows Server 2008..and Geneva Server will make the ADFS version is increment
Geneva Cardspace –> Cardspace. Old name, old style but with some of the enhancement in SAML interoperability you can see the real implementation in Forefront
Windows Identity foundation is the central focus of Geneva, so many of you can easily develop SSO, or Claim based Auth using WIF without the need “techonolgy glue” like Microsoft Passport SDK. You can put the WIF solution in WCF, Web App, or event Client Application. It should be fun when we have a lot solution for one customer and don’t want to be buried in cross cutting layer like authentication.
Bye Bye Geneva, bye bye Neo
Welcome WIF, and welcome code-named Mutiara
