The Bad And The Good MSE
Well, through this blog Naren told me that MSE is already realesed. MSE is stands for Microsoft Security Essentials simply is said is a security suite that consist Anti Virus, Spyware, and Rootkit detection. In the former product MSE is live one care a commercial anti virus from Microsoft that now converted into a free services for genuine users of windows XP, Vista or 7.
MSE is using existing spyware engine from Windows Defender, so if you install this you will get Windows Defender is disabled. simply turn as algorithm MSE = AV + Spyware Removal + malicous removal kit. Doing a little test and get some litle conclusion.
Pros
- Small Installation (4 MB)
- Small runtime footprint (4 MB memory consumption)
- Calm (no shout, no ads, no terrible popup)
- Simple (it's too simple for a people who already using sufficient AV in the past, but a great stuff for a newbie)
- Speed (1 GB USB FD with 756 MB used spaces is only take a less than 43 secs on my old X2 machine)
- Native X64 support (is not emulated just like some of AV when running in 64 bit OS)
Cons
- Huge update for the first time (it's about 40 MB to download the full signature if you unlucky enough)
- Proxy enemy (automatic update can't be done using a proxy with authentication)
- Disable real time protection MSE is not a simple case (others av has a context menu to disable it but not for MSE, I should open the setting page, this options is essentials for Gamer like me who don't need virus protection while gaming)
- Archives scan is not rich enough (only support zip, cab.. not confirmed other archives)
Frankly speaking MSE is just like AV toy in a shape, but powerfull in inside. I'm tested using Hackers DVD that has 437 viruses , MSE can detect 470 viruses :D (false alarm is better than no alarm) :) so why don't you pick one and choose it if you like it
