Sedikit abstraksi mengenai project ini (yang diambil dari proposal yang dikirim ke Mr. Risman) :
Embrace is a system targeted at social and (usually) non-profit organizations, that allows donators to add personal touch along with their donations, and allows them to receive feedback if they so choose. For example, donators may pick a greeting card (from a list of pre-made sympathy greeting cards, optionally customizable like the ability to add the sender’s photo) when they donate, and they may also choose to receive feedback, in the form of a short video clip. The on-site personnel will distribute the greeting cards to any disaster victim they meet, capturing a video clip for each greeting card. The video clips will be published on a web site, and the donators will be notified (via e-mail, mobile text message, or other means) and each donator will be able to view the video clip related to the greeting cards they sent.
Embrace builds on the belief that every individual is personal, no matter who they are. Embrace attempts to treat the people at both extreme ends (namely, the donator and the receiver), as personal and as individual as possible, while minimizing effort and cost as much as possible. Treating people this way is a highly sensitive matter, and requires some knowledge of social science to avoid dangerous pitfalls.
From the technological point of view, all of the technology for Embrace is already available as early as about 5 (five) years ago. It makes use of the Internet and the World Wide Web (WWW), electronic transactions, wireless communication technology, and camera phones which is very common nowadays.
Embrace can be implemented in at least one of two methods. It can be integrated with an existing information technology infrastructure of an organization, or it can be a standalone service, which will make it easy for any organization to add Embrace services to their workflow with minimal effort. This proposal focuses on a simpler alternative, in which Embrace itself is also a charity organization.
