Ah, thanks to my colleague in Singapore for sponsoring an Xbox 360 Elite in order to research about Xbox 360 Game Programming using XNA Game Studio Express. Ah, but before you start transferring your XNA Games from PC to Xbox, you need a few downloads from Xbox Live. Problem is, I didn't have a Wireless LAN Adaptor for my Xbox.
So here's my home Internet scenario:
Lab-room:
Internet (TelkomSpeedy DSL)
|
|
v
DSL Modem (Linksys AM300) <--> Wireless Router (Linksys WRH54G)
Bedroom:
Laptop with WLAN (Windows XP SP2) <--> Xbox 360 Elite
I played around with some settings to finally get Xbox Live to work through Windows ICS. I didn't find a proper step-by-step for this, so that's why I'm creating one now (and allow search Engine 'G' to spider & archive this writing):
- Xbox 360 has a Gigabit NIC, so if your PC/laptop also has a Gigabit NIC, then you can use the supplied Xbox Ethernet cable right away to connect your Xbox to PC/laptop. In my case, my Sony VAIO TR-2 laptop doesn't have Gigabit NIC, so I have to use a cross-over cable.
- Connect your PC/laptop's Wireless LAN and connect to the Internet. Go to Network Connections and make sure ICS is enabled in Sharing tab.
- Click Settings button under ICS panel to set up some port-forwarding stuff:
| Service Name | IP | Internal & External Port | Type (TCP/UDP) |
| DNS | 192.168.0.1 | 53 | UDP |
| XboxTCP | 192.168.0.1 | 3074 | TCP |
| XboxUDP | 192.168.0.1 | 88 | UDP |
| XboxUDP2 | 192.168.0.1 | 3074 | UDP |
- Step 3 was port-forwarding from ICS to your Xbox. Now we need to set up port-forwarding from Wireless Router to your PC/laptop. If you're using Linksys, open up http://192.68.0.1 or go to your Router's admin page to set up Port Forwarding. See image below for settings:
Wireless Router (192.168.1.1)
|
|
Laptop (192.168.1.102)
|
|
Windows ICS Gateway (192.168.0.1)
|
|
Xbox 360 (192.168.0.3)
Forward Port 88 UDP from External to Internal 192.168.1.102 (PC/Laptop)
Forward Port 3074 TCP & UDP from External to Internal 192.168.1.102 (PC/Laptop)
- Disable Universal Plug-n-Play (UPnP) in Wireless Router (my router with UPnP enabled has problems with ICS)
- Edit your Xbox Network Settings:
IP Address: 192.168.0.3
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.1 (ICS)
Primary DNS: 192.168.0.1 (we enabled DNS in ICS, remember?)
Secondary DNS: 0.0.0.0 (not set)
- Test your Xbox Live! You should be able to connect now :)
Kalo yg bukan Elite lebih murah lagi... gw pilih Elite karena ada HDMI cable included (for playing widescreen on my LCD TV + 120GB Hard Drive for downloading stuff from Xbox Live)
